The county of Flint was the birthplace of Owen and John Lloyd. Records show that the Lloyd family lived in a small village at Rhuddlan. Both of the Lloyds entered the British Navy as midshipmen as youngsters with of the influence of their uncle, Captain James Lloyd. Owen Lloyd was thirty-three when he stole the treasure and was apparently murdered at St. Croix two years later. Without a doubt, it was a long time before Flintshire forgot about the Lloyd brothers and their role in the story of the real Treasure Island.
